The operating system is a major part of any computer which helps in speed up your computers.Other popular programs, including Microsoft Office 2016, are not compatible with old OS like Windows Vista and XP. When your software does not work according to the options command, then it is an indication of whether to upgrade or buy a new PC.
To know the version of your Windows, click on the Start button and type System information in the search then the results will appear on the top along with the windows Edition.
If you upgrade to Windows 10 (or at least to windows 7) then your computer will start running on new software. However, this will not always be possible because some essential components are required to run Windows 10. Such as:
- Processor -1GHz or < (For 32 bit)
- 1 GB or 2 GB RAM (for 64 bit)
- 16 GB free space on Hard-drives (for 32 bit)
- 20 GB Free Space on Hard-drives (for 64 bit) etc
To know the speed of processor and RAM of your PC:
Open System Information> Search Processor> Install Physical Memory in the Item Column.
To know the free space on the hard drive:
Open the File Explorer (Windows Explorer in Windows 7 or VISTA)> right click on the C drive> click on the properties then the free space will be highlighted in pink.
2) Speed of the CPU
CPU is said to be the brain of the computer and also helps to speed up your computers. Therefore it is necessary to establish compatibility with its new software, Browsers and operating System.
But in reality the processor is commonly known as the link of some words and numbers such as Intel or AMD etc.
To test your processor, you can try special software such as Pass Mark’s Performance Tests, which is free for 30 days. Download>Install>Open it.
To get the program after it prompted
Click Continue> click on Run on the orange color mark section on the left hand side>after it get Prompted, click on YES>after completing the process, the processor shows CPU MARK in thousands.
But it is better to understand in percentages. Therefore, try the percentage form so that you will find your computer among more than thousands of computers checked around the world.
There is currently no way to give a new life to the old processor. However, it is advisable to over-clock the CPU to increase the speed, which would be better on the old machine because due to stress from over-locking, the processor can not only break but can also be overheated.
3) Speed of the RAM
RAM, helps to speed up your computers, but it totally depends on how fast the data accesses your computer’s memory.
To find the RAM, we will take the help of PASS MARK Performance test applied for CPU in the previous point.
But this time we have to click on the Memory Mark Run button, which will keep the test running in the test background and the results of the test will show you in percentage.
In order to increase the life of RAM, extra RAM can be added to the computer, but it is important to buy the right kind of RAM for it because the fast RAM will only be able to work successfully with the new model Motherboard.
Use Crucial Advisor Tool>Click on Download the Scanner Button>Double click on file after it downloaded>Click on RUN.
Once finished scanning, all the compatible RAM will appear on the Crucial website.
Installing memory is very simple, but memory is always bought in two parts; When you need 4GB RAM, then get two stick of 2 GB each.
But before buying, check out the free slot for extra memory in the Mother-Board. If you do not have an additional slot, then it is better to get one memory of high capacity.
4) Boot Timing
If your PC boots for a long time, then it is a sign of a problem with hard drives or CPU, and because of the lot of programs, the starting time taken by the Windows, may also be the cause of the problem.
